Essential Skills
The Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) launched the Essential Skills for Living Strategy and action plan in April 2002. The Essential Skills for Living Strategy aims to improve adult literacy and numeracy (and now Information & Communication Technology (ICT)) in Northern Ireland. The strategy sets out the vision:
“To provide opportunities for adults to update their essential skills to assist them in improving their overall quality of life, personal development and their employment opportunities and by so doing to promote greater economic development, social inclusion and cohesion”
