The European Co-operative Society - Public Consultation
Summary:
The European Cooperative Regulation will come into force throughout the UK on 18 August 2006. The Regulation provides for a new form of cooperative enterprise, known as the European Cooperative or “SCE” which will be able to operate across Europe on the basis of registration in one Member State. An accompanying Directive specifies the employee involvement arrangements that apply to an SCE.Her Majesty's Treasury and the Department for Trade and Industry are responsible for implementing the legislation in Great Britain. In Northern Ireland (NI), the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) is responsible for the company law element of the legislation and the Department for Employment and Learning is responsible for transposing the Directive on employee involvement. A public consultation document seeking views on the application of European Cooperative Regulations and the accompanying employee involvement Directive in the UK has been published . The document outlines the various aspects of the proposed legislation and sets out the UK government proposals to deal with these. DETI is co-ordinating the consultation exercise in Northern Ireland and the consultation document, together with a copy of a letter issued to consultees, may be accessed at: www.companiesregistry.detini.gov.uk/consultations.
