What is Employment Assessment?
- It can help you find out how your disability or health condition affects the type of work or training you want to do.
- It can help you identify your abilities and strengths.
- It helps you to plan the steps you need to make towards achieving your main job goal.
- It helps you identify your potential.
Where do I go for Employment Assessment?
- Employment Assessments are carried out across Northern Ireland on a regular basis.
- You may have to travel a short distance to an assessment but the team will attempt to meet your individual needs.
- You will have reasonable travel expenses met when you arrive for assessment.
What does Employment Assessment Involve?
- Employment Assessments are tailored to the individual. Therefore people with different job goals and disabilities will have different exercises to complete.
- You may have to complete some pencil and paper exercises e.g. English and Maths exercises. Others may be asked to complete practical exercises such as working with tools or sorting components. For people who want to work in an office, they may be asked to do some exercises on a computer, file or check work for accuracy.
- You will have the opportunity to discuss vocational options and decide on the types of jobs that suit you.
- The assessment normally takes between one and two days. Again this depends on your individual case.
- You will have the opportunity to discuss your performance and will get feedback when finished the exercises.
- A report will then be provided to help guide your next steps towards work.
Retention Work
Work based solutions are offered to employers to retain and develop employees with disability. Retention support work offers:
- Assessment Services, both in the workplace and offsite, similar to the employment assessment service.
