Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS)
ORSAS was established by the UK government in 1979 with the aim of strengthening the UK research base by attracting the best research students from around the world. During its lifespan over 24,000 awards were made across the UK to students from some 90 countries (excluding EU countries).
A decision was taken in 2008 to phase out funding for ORSAS as the scheme was considered to have achieved its purpose and no longer represented a high priority for financial support.
