Part-time students
The amount of Fee Grant available to part time students has been increased. For example, those studying the equivalent of 75% or more of a full-time course may get up to £1,180 a year, as well as a course grant of up to £255.
Disabled Students' Allowances
From September 2008, the maximum amount of DSAs for non-medical helpers and disabled postgraduate students will be increased by approximately 60%. The maximum allowance for non-medical helpers is being increased to £20,000 for full-time undergraduate students and to £15,000 for part-time disabled undergraduates. The maximum DSA for postgraduate students will be increased to £10,000.
Full-Time Distance Learning Students
From September 2007, students on designated full-time distance learning courses can apply for a fee grant up to £1,180 a year and a course grant of up to £255 a year. They may also qualify for Disabled Students Allowance.
Fee Loans For Students On Flexible Postgraduate Courses For The Initial Training Of Teachers
From September 2008, students starting flexible PGCE courses will be eligible for a fee loan to cover the cost of their fees. This includes courses lasting from six weeks to one year.
Loans For Long Courses
Long course loans have been introduced for new full-time students commencing their course from September 2008. The income level for eligibility for this loan is £39,780 (means-tested) and is based on the length of the course being more than 30 weeks and 3 days in the academic year.
