Smiles of success after winning a National Training Award L-R: Yvonne Connolly, Training Officer, Peter McMahon, Project Manager, Louise Togneri, Training Manager, The Housing Rights Service.

Housing Rights Service, an independent charity who works to promote the rights of people in housing need in Northern Ireland has been recognised for its training services provided through the innovative Community Housing Advice Project (CHAP).

CHAP is a partnership initiative between three regional organisations: Housing Rights Service, AdviceNI and Citizens Advice. It aims to help prevent homelessness and alleviate poor housing conditions throughout Northern Ireland by enhancing the skills of frontline advisers to offer high quality housing advice to people in their local communities.

An independent evaluation of the CHAP project shows that after participating in the training, advisers reported being more confident in identifying issues and more able to deal with complex cases.

So far, 395 advisers have taken part in a range of training activities, including advice skills, social housing, homelessness, the private rented sector, financing accommodation, grants and anti social behaviour.
