Ryobi Aluminium Casting (UK) and NE Institute of Further & Higher Education

Dr Brian Hill, Head of Innovation and Development, North East Institute Centre of Excellence and Engineering and John Cochrane, Ryobi Human Resources and Safety Manager get a helping hand to pick up their National Training Award.

Ryobi Aluminum Casting (UK) Ltd joined forces with the North East Institute of Further & Higher Education (NEI) in an effort to reduce maintenance downtime across its Carrickfergus plant which was running at 12% and affecting shipments to customers.

NEI identified a need for automation training within Ryobi and the two organisations came together in a successful training collaboration which brought major benefits to both partners. NEI invested in a new robotic training facility, created tailored maintenance and operations training for 17 robot cell operators resulting in increased production time by 63 days.

A further 60 Ryobi staff will be trained over the next two years and a Robotics Forum has been established, where ten companies involved with robotics share good practice and training requirements.
