Climate Change (lead Department – DOE)
Climate Change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events.
The UK-wide Climate Change Bill (which incorporates Northern Ireland) is one of a number steps being taken to reduce the harmful emissions that contribute to climate change. This initiative contributes to the overarching Sustainable Development” strategy.
DEL's Involvement
While there is little that DEL can directly do to reduce emissions, the Department will continue to encourage its delivery partners, eg Colleges and Universities to move towards carbon neutral buildings.
