Sustainable Procurement
Sustainable Procurement (lead Department – DFP)
Sustainable Procurement falls within the over-arching Sustainable Development” Strategy. The primary objective of public procurement policy is achieving best value for money – having due regard to propriety and regularity. While best value for money” is the primary objective of procurement policy, it allows for the inclusion, as appropriate, of social, economic and environmental goals within the procurement process.
DEL's Involvement
DEL will continue to play its part in the achievement of objectives through ensuring that its public sector procurement is channelled through recognised Centres of Procurement Expertise. The Department will also be guided by sustainable development principles for capital investment decisions for any major publicly-funded buildings and infrastructure projects within its remit.
