Better Regulation
Better Regulation (lead Department – DETI)
Most of the regulations affecting Northern Ireland business derive from EU or UK law. Regardless of their source, it is vital that their implementation and enforcement does not place Northern Ireland business at a disadvantage.
Businesses can be frustrated by what they see as unnecessary red tape, too much form filling and the perceived heavy hand of government regulation.
Regulatory Impact Assessments (RIAs), as with other statutory proofings, are carried out, as necessary, on any new policy or policy change. RIAs assess the impact on small business and on the voluntary and community sector in terms of costs, benefits and risks of a proposal.
DEL's Involvement
DEL, along with all NI Departments, operates under the Northern Ireland Better Regulation Strategy which aims to promote a regulatory environment which does not stifle enterprise or hinder economic development in Northern Ireland. RIAs carried out for relevant DEL programmes and services are published on the website.
