Older People (lead Department – OFMdFM)
The Older People Strategy document, "Ageing in an Inclusive Society" sets out Government's approach to promote and support the inclusion of older people in Northern Ireland.
DEL's Involvement
DEL’s main contribution to this strategy is to increase participation in education and training by those in the 50+ age group. In addition, the Careers Service is an all-age guidance service which now provides improved access to careers guidance for over 50 year olds.
LATEST NEWS - Older People's Commissioner
The Final Stage of the Commissioner for Older People Bill took place on 7 December 2010 and was unanimously passed by the Assembly without amendment.
The Bill received Royal Assent on 25 January 2011 and is known as The Commissioner for Older People Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.
The Commissioner for Older People Appointment Competition has started and the closing date for applications was Friday 15 April 2011. Further details can be found at Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister link below.
