Survey of Incapacity Benefits claimants in Northern Ireland published

The Department for Employment and Learning today published the findings of a survey into the characteristics of incapacity benefit claimants in Northern Ireland.

The Report is entitled:

INCAPACITY BENEFIT CLAIMANTS: GEOGRAPHY, HOUSEHOLDS, DECISION MAKING AND WELFARE REFORM

The report will help to inform the Department’s policies on Welfare Reform.

The survey was conducted on behalf of the Department by a consortium comprising the School of Geography, Archaeology and Paleoecology at Queen’s University, Belfast and the Institute for Employment Research at the University of Warwick.

As part of the Department for Employment and Learning’s (DEL) Research Agenda, a consortium comprising the School of Geography, Archaeology and Paleoecology at Queen’s University, Belfast and the Institute for Employment Research at the University of Warwick was commissioned in 2006 to undertake research into the characteristics of IB claimants in Northern Ireland.  No comparable survey has previously been conducted in Northern Ireland.  The finding will help to inform the Department’s policy response to the Welfare Reform agenda.
