Tyrone pupils gain an insight into their future

Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, today met with a group of sixth form pupils to discuss their future career opportunities.

The cross community event, ‘Engaging Young People’, took place in the ‘Newtownstewart 2000’ centre in County Tyrone and was attended by students from seven schools in the Omagh area. The Minister spoke at length with pupils about their choices for the future including further study, training and employment.

Other speakers included several local politicians, who gave an insight into the workings of local and national Government.

Commenting on the event, Sir Reg said: “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to address this group of young people today. They are at a critical time in their career development and it is vital that they make the right decisions about their future.  My Department provides advice and support to all young people and adults on education, training and employment opportunities available.  

“We place a high priority on skills and have introduced new measures to support young people in further and higher education and employment in the future.  We want to give them every opportunity to find a rewarding career which enables them to achieve their full potential.”

Organiser Ryan Moses said: "This event is the first of its kind in West Tyrone and I am delighted thatit has received such support, it is a unique opportunity for our young people.”
