Chairman appointed to the Ulster Supported Employment Limited Board

Employment and Learning Minister, Maria Eagle, today confirmed the appointment of a new chairman to the Ulster Supported Employment Limited (USEL) Board.  

The appointment of Mr Patrick Bogues takes effect from 16 September 2006 and will run until 15 September 2009.

Mr Bogues has been a member of the USEL Board since 1 January 2003 and is also currently Chairman of C.A.P. Ltd, a learning disability charity.  

He has previously held the position of Vice Chairman on the Omagh 2010 Task Force and was a founding committee member of Omagh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, serving as President in 2000-01.  

NOTES TO EDITORS:

  1. USEL is a Non-Departmental Public Body which was established in 1962 to provide sheltered employment for severely disabled people. It merged with the Workshops for the Blind in 1980 and acquired charitable status in 1996. USEL employs more than 750 people throughout Northern Ireland in a range of programmes, making it the largest employer of people with disabilities in Northern Ireland.
  2. The appointment has been made on merit and in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments NI Code of Practice.
  3. Board Chairman receives an allowance of £220 for attendance at meetings (approximately 11 meetings per year).
  4. Political activity played no part in the selection process. Mr Bogues has held office such as Chair, Treasurer or Secretary of a local branch of the SDLP within the last five years.
  5. The Current Chairman of the Board is Mr David Russell.
