Occupation forecasts and replacement demand analysis for Northern Ireland 2005-2015
The Department for Employment and Learning has published a research report entitled Occupational Forecasts and Replacement Demand Analysis for NI 2005-2015.
The forecasts are based on a model of the Northern Ireland economy which provides annual employment projections for 24 separate occupation groups for each year until 2015.
The principal benefit of these forecasts is that they will act as an early warning system for potential changes in Northern Ireland’s occupational structure. The information will also provide the Department with a measure of the scale of likely job vacancies in each occupation caused by labour turnover as well as by the expansion or contraction of demand.
The research links well with the Department’s Skills Strategy under the theme
“understanding the demand for skills”, and will help inform the future skill requirements and the planning and funding of post 16 education and training.
In particular it will help inform the work of the Skills Expert Group which has been established to advise government on the process of identifying skills needs and to make recommendations on the steps required to meet those needs.
