Close working partnerships will benefit the economy - Empey
Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, this evening met with the governing body Chairs of the six new further education colleges.
The meeting inaugurates a series of annual meetings between the Minister and the Chairs to discuss issues affecting the further education sector.
Commenting before the meeting, Sir Reg said: “The Northern Ireland economy needs people with skills to match the opportunities offered by employers. Our colleges are at the forefront of the drive to provide people with these skills, so it is essential that the Department and the colleges meet regularly to ensure that the training and education provided is appropriate for the needs of our economy.
“Actions taken to meet these aims must proceed in a spirit of partnership and it is in this spirit that I look forward to this inaugural meeting.”
The governing body is responsible for securing the efficient and effective management of the college, having regard to the needs of industry, commerce and the community in which it is situated.
