Help for redundant workers is available - Empey
Employment Minister, Sir Reg Empey, today expressed his genuine sympathy for those affected by the job cuts announced yesterday and urged them to seek practical support from his Department.
The Minister said: “This news is another hard knock to people who are already feeling the brunt of the recession. Despite the recent evidence of growth in the UK economy, it is inevitable that unemployment will continue to rise for some time.
“I am fully aware that is cold comfort to those who are facing unemployment, but I want them to know that my Department has in place a range of services and provision on alternative employment opportunities, training and careers advice to help them through this difficult time. There is a whole range of information available, including advice about the options and support available to help them find another job.
“Whilst I cannot generate jobs or employment, I can assure you that all efforts will be made by my officials to provide support for those individuals who have been made redundant and we will weather this storm together.”
The Minister concluded: “Advisors in Jobs and Benefits offices, JobCentres and Careers Resource Centres will be happy to assist anyone who is unemployed and seeking employment.”
