Minister receives Independent Report on Student Fees

Sir Reg Empey, the Minister for Employment and Learning, has received the independent report on student fees.
Joanne Stuart, chairperson of the independent review of variable fees and student finance arrangements in Northern Ireland presented her findings to the Minister today.
Sir Reg said: “I am extremely grateful to Joanne for her commitment to this important review which has been invaluable to ensure its independence. I understand that Joanne has had extensive engagement with key stakeholders and I would like to thank all those who contributed to this evidence gathering process.”
“The review has started an important debate that I want to continue and I look forward to considering this report in full before launching a consultation inviting proposals from the public for future student finance funding for Northern Ireland students.”
The Minister emphasised the importance of the higher education sector to the local economy: “Northern Ireland’s higher education sector makes an invaluable contribution to our social, economic and cultural life and it is central to our success in the modern world. It must remain internationally competitive, financially sustainable and accessible to all who are able to benefit from it.”
