Minister meets southern counterparts

4 September 2007

Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, will today meet with his Republic of Ireland counterparts in Dublin.

He will meet with the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin TD, and the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin TD, to discuss a range of matters of mutual interest.

Speaking ahead of these meetings, Sir Reg said: “Working closely with my Irish counterparts is of great importance for the future well being of the economy on both sides of the border. There are already many examples of good co-operation in the employment and higher and further education fields and I will be seeking to build on these through effective working partnerships.

“In particular the meetings will focus on a sharing of ideas on key common issues such as the fostering of innovation and research projects, development of workforce skills, reviewing the growing number of migrant workers to our communities and cross-border co-operation on Higher and Further Education matters.”
