Northern Ireland student income and expenditure survey 2004-2005

The Department for Employment and Learning has published a research report entitled Northern Ireland Student Income and Expenditure Survey 2004/2005.

The survey is based on Northern Ireland domiciled higher education students at Northern Ireland institutions.  It used a representative sample of both full time and part-time students on designated undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the academic year 2004/2005 to collect detailed data on students’ financial position and how this differs depending on students’ background and circumstances.

The survey also considered the impact of current student support arrangements with a view to monitoring the impact of any future changes.

The research was designed to set a baseline against which future changes, following the 2004 Higher Education Act, could be monitored.  It provides an evidence base for the Department’s policy making, particularly in relation to student support, and adds to the evaluation of the 2002 Student Support Review which the Department is committed to undertaking in 2008.  It also provides data for estimating the costs of changes in student support arrangements.

The report is available to download from the Departments’ website on http://www.delni.gov.uk/research external link
