Minister goes East to promote learning and skills
Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, heads off today on a three day visit to India, to promote international collaboration and research.
He will begin his visit by officially opening the International Symposium on Cancer Biology at the National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi. The conference represents a unique collaboration involving the Institute and the Department of Biotechnology, with Northern Ireland through Queen’s University and the University’s Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology.
The Minister will also be meeting Dr Chadha, a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Panel, to discuss the role of universities in economic development, skills development and widening participation.
Also on the itinerary are a number of meetings with Indian Universities to promote partnerships between Northern Ireland and India and support existing collaboration and meetings with key Indian businesses who have invested in Northern Ireland. Amongst the topics for discussion will be the companies’ future skills needs and how these can be met.
