Minister Celebrates Investors in People Success Stories

18 November 2005

The Investors in People Standard continues to be key in ensuring the competitiveness of local businesses

This was the message from Employment and Learning Minister Angela Smith as she met representatives of 35 local organisations who recently achieved the Investors in People Standard.

Paying tribute to their efforts, during a presentation ceremony at Hillsborough Castle today, the Minister said: “Investors in People is a means by which local employers can help ensure bottom-line business results. It is only by equipping their staff with the skills and flexibility they require to do their job that businesses can effectively maximise their output.

“I am pleased to see so many organisations here today who have shown the commitment to developing their people. It is a promising sign for the local economy.”

Stressing that Investors in People recognition was not the end of the journey for Award recipients, the Minister added: “In many regards, today’s ceremony is the start of a process for these organisations. It should not be seen therefore as the culmination of a project, but rather the beginning of a sustained commitment to workforce development, leading to improved long-term business performance.”

During the ceremony, HM Prison Magilligan was also recognised with the Investors in People UK Award for Work-Life Balance.
