Extension of the powers of the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland

Summary:

The Department of Education (DE) and the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) wish to expand the powers of the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI), to secure its independence from government, extend its current remit to include the regulation and registration of Further Education (FE) lecturers and, provide powers to investigate school teachers and FE lecturers on the grounds of misconduct or serious professional incompetence.
