Belfast Metropolitan College - Efficiency Review

Summary:

The attached report sets out the findings of the Department for Employment and Learning’s efficiency review of Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) which was carried out under Article 18 of the Further Education (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. The report has been redacted, in line with guidance issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office, to remove the names of specific individuals in respect of data protection legislation; otherwise, the report is presented in its entirety. The report contains a number of recommendations which are aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the current college operations and the Department has been liaising closely with the College governing body and senior management team to ensure that the recommendations are fully implemented. Much of this work has already been completed and a formal review steering group made up of college and departmental officials has been established to monitor progress. In addition to the implementation of the recommendations of the efficiency review, BMC will, over the coming months, be developing a college improvement plan which will assist with setting the strategic direction of the college over the medium to long term to ensure that it continues to deliver high quality education and training to young people and support the needs of local business and the wider economy as well as ensuring the continued financial health of the institute. The Department is providing advice and guidance to the college in the development of the plan which is particularly timely as work has commenced on the College’s new state of the art campus within Belfast’s Titanic Quarter which will provide students and staff with high quality accommodation, resources and facilities which will enhance and improve the learning experiences of all.
