Steps to Work Statistics
The Department for Employment and Learning provides statistics on the Steps to Work programme in Northern Ireland.
Statistical Bulletins
On 29 September 2008, the Department for Employment and Learning introduced the Steps to Work programme which subsumed the main New Deal programmes in Northern Ireland. The aim of Steps to Work is to assist people who are unemployed or economically inactive to find and sustain employment.
The bulletins provide key statistical information for the Steps to Work programme. Data have been provided on numbers participating in Steps to Work, on key personal characteristics of participants (such as gender and community background), on the Steps to Work strands undertaken within the programme and on destinations after leaving the programme. The statistical bulletins are published quarterly.
Occasional Paper
This paper examines the destination of leavers from Steps to Work using DEL data, Department for Social Development (DSD) benefits data and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) employment data. Comparisons are made with the destination statistics previously published, which were based solely on data from DEL’s Client Management System (CMS). The Steps to Work destination statistics for Northern Ireland are also compared with those for New Deal in Great Britain
