ICT Future Skills Action Group

The role of the ICT Future Skills Action Group, working alongside employers, Momentum, e-skills the Sector Skills Council and relevant others is to:

  • establish current and future skills needs for the ICT sector including estimating potential numbers and skills levels required
  • explore opportunities for job and wealth creation for the ICT sector in other economic sectors e.g. financial services
  • coordinate existing resources and activities within the sector to current and future skills needs
  • advise, design, develop, test, trial and evaluate new interventions which are able to meet existing and future skills needs within the ICT sector
  • act as a Champion” for the ICT sector both with Government and the private sector, and to promote the sector and it’s opportunities to potential new entrants either as individuals and or FDI projects from commercial operations.

The ICT Future Skills Action Group will also advise government on projected requirements and international opportunities for Northern Ireland and make recommendations on the steps required to meet identified need.

The work of the Group shall cover four main areas:

  • working with Momentum, e-skills, Invest NI, the private sector and DEL to identify skills demands for the ICT sector;
  • working with the Higher Education, Further Education and schools sectors to develop appropriate intervention training programmes to meet current and future skills needs;
  • working with Invest NI, DEL Careers IAG, Further Education, Higher Education, Momentum and e-skills to promote the high value employment opportunities in the ICT sector to individuals; and
  • working with Invest NI and DEL and appropriate others to promote Northern Ireland as a vibrant ICT destination hub both nationally and internationally.

The ICT Future Skills Action Group is an advisory body made up of representatives of Government, academia and industry.
