Motivational speaker of the year to address local SMEs

The Department for Employment and Learning’s leadership and management campaign ‘Made Not Born’ set to continue
Following its highly successful launch last month, the Department for Employment and Learning’s leadership and management campaign, ‘Made Not Born’ is set to continue with a further two free events. The roadshows will take place on Tuesday 2 November in the Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena, and will continue on Wednesday 3 November in the Marine Court Hotel, Bangor.
The November roadshow events are to be hosted by internationally renowned speaker, author, broadcaster and businessman Steve McDermott. Considered by many to be among the best business speakers in the world, and having been voted best motivational speaker of the year on three occasions, his input will undoubtedly be both insightful and thought provoking. Steve will explore what it is to lead from the front; demonstrating how dynamic and creative leadership are two key attributes that, if employed correctly by business owners, can help to unlock staff skill sets and assist a business to grow – regardless of the trading conditions.
Commenting on his involvement with the ‘Made Not Born’ campaign, Steve said: “I am delighted to be able to take part in what I believe to be a forward thinking and relevant training programme. I have engaged with many organisations and individuals over the years, and I believe that the ability to motivate staff and to think creatively underpins an innovative approach to developing business operations. At the heart of any development has to be people. The ethos of the ‘Made Not Born’ programme embraces this concept; not least because of the way in which it is delivered – it has everything to do with specific business needs, people development and what can be done to help a business prosper.”
The campaign is based on the proven concept that great leaders and managers are not born, but rather made. ‘Made Not Born’ aims to highlight to SMEs the benefits of deploying simple but effective management and leadership techniques. To help illustrate these benefits, the Department for Employment and Learning has once again teamed up with some of the Europe’s leading management experts, as well as local champions – each providing real life, real time examples of just how impactful these techniques can be when deployed in a business environment.
Mervyn Langtry, Head of the Department for Employment and Learning‘s Management Development Branch said: “During these difficult economic times when the private sector has been identified as the custodians of our economic recovery, the Made Not Born campaign is ideally positioned to offer flexible training solutions that can easily be deployed and integrated by an SME client. And as pressures mount on budgets, the encouraging news is that the programmes are currently available with up to 100% funding.”
