Farry encourages summer learning for Made not Born campaign

Cara Cash, Business Development Manager from Lisburn based social enterprise, Stepping Stones, joins Employment and Learning Minister, Dr. Stephen Farry at the launch of the Department’s ‘Made Not Born’ E-Zine to encouraged SMEs to take the opportunity to brush up on their management and leadership learning over the summer months. The E-Zine, entitled ‘Summer Learning’ is part of the Department for Employment and Learning’s management and leadership campaign ‘Made Not Born’. The summer editions will cover a range of subjects such as Leadership and Management Skills, Motivation, Mentoring, Coaching and Social Media.

Employment and Learning Minister, Dr. Stephen Farry has encouraged SMEs to take the opportunity to brush up on their management and leadership learning with the launch of a new Made Not Born E-Zine.

The E-Zine, entitled ‘Summer Learning’ is part of the Department for Employment and Learning’s management and leadership campaign ‘Made Not Born’. The summer editions will cover a range of subjects such as Leadership and Management Skills, Motivation, Mentoring, Coaching and Social Media.

Commenting on the ezine launch the Minister said: “Since the launch of my Department’s ‘Made Not Born’ campaign in 2009 it has engaged with more than 1500 SMEs. I advocate the campaign’s aim of encouraging management and leadership skills development across Northern Ireland. These skills are crucial to raising the productivity of companies and helping Northern Ireland to compete in the global marketplace. My Department’s recently launched Skills Strategy spells out the ambition for Northern Ireland to be a leader in developing and deploying management and leadership capabilities fit for 21st Century challenges. In what are challenging times, Northern Ireland’s prosperity, both now and in the future, will depend largely on our ability to develop the knowledge-based economy. This is essential to support growth and effective leadership skills will be at the heart of this process.

“For those interested in the area of management and leadership, the E-Zine is a useful guide to relevant articles, videos and best practice information that will help develop your skills over the summer months.”

Each edition will feature commentary from some of the UK’s most prominent management and leadership speakers, many of whom have contributed to the ‘Made Not Born’ campaign.

The E-Zine will also highlight organisations that have directly engaged with and benefited from the ‘Made Not Born’ training programmes.

The E-Zine allows for key management and leadership themes to be delivered in a user friendly manner during the summer months and ahead of the 2011/2012 campaign activity kicking off in late September 2011.
