Leadership and Management
Leadership and Management – for better business
Since publication of Leading…to Success in July 2007 the Department has been steering the implementation of the 16 Key Actions set out in the Strategy.
The recent “Leadership Northern Ireland Conference” at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast provided an opportunity for the Department to host a well-attended workshop session to review of the nature and extent of leadership and management skills provision available to the private sector, through government Departments. The session specifically sought views on the content and extent of government provision, as well as providing an update on progress of the wider strategy.
The workshop was chaired by the Department’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Aideen McGinley. Kieran Mannion, Head of Management Development and Vicky Kell, Invest NI outlined the new programmes available to help companies to improve their overall leadership and management capabilities, linked to the achievement of better business results. The subsequent question time provided valuable insights into the leadership and management issues faced by small and medium sized enterprises in Northern Ireland.
Leading…to Success emphasises how leadership and management skills provision must effectively and coherently meet the needs of employers in Northern Ireland. In pursuit of this goal, the Department is currently reviewing and mapping its own leadership and management provision, against data emerging from other strands of work contained in the strategy’s implementation plan. This work will provide a strong basis for the shaping of future programmes.
