VQ DAY: Celebrating Vocational Achievement – Wednesday 5 June 2013
Employment and Learning Minister, Dr Stephen Farry has announced the winners of the Northern Ireland VQ Learner of the Year and VQ Employer of the Year on Vocational Qualification (VQ) Day 2013.
At an awards ceremony held in Parliament Buildings, Jacqueline McCaughey scooped the Northern Ireland VQ Learner of the Year 2013 and, McGee’s and Schrader Electronics were announced as the joint winners of the inaugural Northern Ireland VQ Employer of the Year 2013.
VQ Learner of the Year
The VQ Learner of the Year, Jacqueline McCaughey, is employed at MindWise, a charity that supports individuals with mental health needs. Jacqueline has completed an impressive marathon journey in terms of her qualification achievements, picking up level 2, 3 and then level 4 qualifications at Southern Regional College, Banbridge campus before finishing with her Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care. Jacqueline has achieved excellence in Health and Social Care by becoming a representative for the Royal College of Nursing and by becoming an ambassador for the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC).
Employer of the Year (joint winners)
Schrader Electronics were recognised for their commitment to training. Since May 2007, a total of 855 employees have achieved nationally recognised qualifications in a range of occupational areas including Engineering, Health and Safety, Customer Service and Leadership and Management at the organisation.
Whilst McGee’s retail butchery stores were recognised for the development of a comprehensive training programme in association with their local college which provided opportunities for their staff to achieve national recognised qualifications in a range of disciplines including butchery, food safety and food processing to customer service, team leading and management. The training programme also demonstrated significant business improvements to the retail outlet.
